About
MAP magazine is now closed to commissions.
The MAP archive remains active and available online.
MAP was a non-for-profit digital platform dedicated to the discussion and support of artist-led publishing and production.
Launched in 2005, after 25 issues in print, MAP was recast in 2011 as an online project with occasional print and production projects attached. This latest format was led by editorial directors, Alice Bain (founding editor) and Laura Haynes, who together developed the title to become a unique and significant platform for Scotland’s art production and art writing.
In recent years, numerous cross-disciplinary guest editors delivered thematic series and commissions across one or more issues, inviting artists and writers from a wide spectrum of the art and literary world to contribute new work. In parallel, pitches were welcomed from all spheres of art making and writing, emerging and established, local and international. These two strands allowed MAP to maintain an accessible, open and flexible publishing structure.
All of this content, c. 1700 contributions, remain free to our global readership. We are currently working on the structure and navigation of this digital archive and will have further news in 2025.
