Performance: as per the form of something; fit for purpose, up to scratch, fulfilling expectations. Measured by its relationship to the form; its proximity to the form; its capacity to make form of the form. Forms can be a whole bunch of things: scores, scripts, norms, demands, identities………………………………………………………………form has a shape, and the shape might be moral, relational, figurative, systematic. Always carried out by a performant of performants, welcome or unwelcome.

Gordon Douglas is a performance artist in Glasgow. Cicely Farrer is a curator on the north-east coast of Scotland. Together they initiated Good on Paper.
Throughout Summer 2021, they set themselves the daily task of writing definitions for the fluid subject of Performance Art. A selection of these are hosted in Appendices 1-4.
