Mediations Biennale 2010, Poznan
Alongside the Poz Modern International Music Festival, the second edition of Poland’s Mediations Biennale will open in Poznan on 11 September 2010.
It will comprise of two major exhibitions, Beyond Mediations and Erased Walls.Beyond Mediations, curated by Tsutomu Mizusawa and Professor Ryszard W Kluszczynski, will be held in the National Museum in Poznan and Culture Centre ‘Zamek’. As the title suggests, it is intended to form a development of the Mediations Biennale held in 2008.
Likewise, Erased Walls is preceded by two similarly themed exhibitions, Der Riss im Raum (Berlin, 1994) and After The Wall (Stockholm, 1999). Erased Walls continues a previously established visual discussion of the sociological and political history of Central Europe, focusing here on work created in the new Millennium. Separate projects and events are included in this project, thus, creating a dialogue between the nine curators involved. These individual components include the (im)possibilities of islands and post-ideological society, curated by Noam Braslavsky and Georgi Begun respectively.
Other shows taking place alongside the event’s two major exhibitions include HUB or SChAB and SKIN: Extreme Pleasure, Extreme Pain at the ‘Arsenal’ City Gallery and Do it/Duit (Do It/Money) by three Indonesian artists, Heri Dono Ahmad Ghozaly and Made Bayak, who intend to expand the discourse generated by Erased Walls, with a ‘critical commentary on the social, political and economic landscape of the Far East.’
