Commission: Ruth Ewan
Balancing precariously between fact and mythology, Fang’s outputs are sprawling, relatively unseen and yet extraordinary. A self-styled, self-proclaimed ‘amiable ragbag’ and natural front-man, he leads a reclusive life from a small flat in Archway, London, which he shares with 100 free-flying birds. Dabbling in music, poetry, script-writing, acting, painting, gardening, modelling and magic, he sees his life itself as a complete work of performance art.
Fang Sang is a project by Ruth Ewan developed while on residency at Byam Shaw School of Art on the Cocheme Fellowship.
A series of spoken word interviews and songs with an accompanying booklet and the set of four MAP postcards offer a glimpse into the creativity of Fang. The interviews and songs are available for download here.
